Read this Guardian feature on the launch of BBC Sounds and answer the following questions:

1) Why does the article suggest that ‘on the face of it, BBC Radio is in rude health’?

Because it has control of half the national market and they reach more than 34 million people a week.

2) What percentage of under-35s use the BBC i Player catch-up radio app?
3% of under 35's use the I Player catch-up radio app.

3) What is BBC Sounds?
An app and also a website that will bring things such as radio live-streams, catch-up services, music mixes and podcasts all in one place.

4) How do audiences listen to radio content in the digital age?

People tend to listen to radio content through voice assistants such as Amazon's Alexa.

5) What does Jason Phipps suggest is important for radio and podcast content aimed at younger audiences?
He suggests that we should reconsider the way that the BBC tells stories if they want to attract a younger audience. He suggests "it has to be a warmer, more story led journey.

6) Why does the BBC need to stay relevant?
It is because the BBC is really important and valued by license fee.

It is a little tricky to access and the search is not sensitive enough. Furthermore there is not enough content for example "spooky sounds" only offers 11 shows.

10) Two new podcasts were launched alongside the BBC Sounds app. What are they and why might they appeal to younger audiences?
'End of Days' and 'Beyond Today'. The first one is about the UK and if they have enough money and the second one is about an Instagram star being killed for being too provocative. This may appeal to younger audiences as it talks about issues that may relate to them and appeal to them.

3) What audience do they reach?

Mainly black, Asian and ethnic communities.

4) What are the 2015 statistics on podcast listening in the UK?

92% of these ethnic minorities listening to the podcasts.

5) The article suggests podcasts are ‘picking up more steam’. Do you think podcasts the future of radio?

It is not strong enough as people now tend to listen to things on streaming services such as spotify and apple music which are currently dominating the market.
